How do I know when it's time to say goodbye?

This may be the most difficult decision we face as pet owners. It can be deeply upsetting to think about letting our pets go and it can feel overwhelming to have to make that final decision. We are here to help. Ultimately, we want to make sure that our pets have a good quality of life.

It’s important to watch for any changes in our pet's behaviour or wellbeing that may tell us they are struggling. It may also be helpful to discuss any changes you notice with other family members or your usual vet.

Whilst there are no set rules for assessing quality of life, use the below as a starting place.

Monitor the basics

Is your pet eating and drinking normally? Can they toilet unaided? Can they get around without pain? Can they rest comfortably?

Use a calendar

Mark each day on a calendar as either a good day or a bad day. Are the good days outweighing the bad?

Favourite things

List your pets 3 favourite things to do. Can they still do them all?

We are happy to discuss your pets quality of life with you and supply you with advice, quality of life assessments and aids.
